Joseph Howington was born in Texas and educated in Southern California, graduating in 1973 from California State University Fullerton with a Bachelor of Arts in History. In 1974 he obtained his Secondary Teaching Credential and was an educator at both the elementary and secondary levels, as well as a high school basketball coach prior to entering the practice of law. Mr. Howington received his Juris Doctor from Western State University College of Law and was admitted to the California Bar in 1979. He is a Certified Family Law Specialist with a private practice in Ontario California and owner of the firm Howington & Associates. Mr. Howington is a member of the East West Family Law Council (President from 2008-2009), the Orange County Bar Association, the California Association of Certified Family Law Specialists and the State Bar of California. He is admitted to practice in the State of California, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, the California Supreme Court, the United States Bankruptcy Court Central District and the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Howington is a frequent lecturer as well as author of articles on family law topics. He also regularly served as Judge Pro Tem for both Los Angeles and San Bernardino County courts. In August of 2018, Mr. Howington and his wife Bobbie celebrated their 40th anniversary. They are proud parents of Ashleigh, a Speech-Language Pathologist with a practice in Orange County. Their dog Oliver (aka Ollie) - a 3 year old Portuguese Water dog can frequently be seen at the office with one of them.
